Health and Safety Audits
While a hazard assessment or inspection looks for particular issues on the worksite, a health and safety audit looks at the overall effectiveness of the organization's/company's health and safety program.

The goal of the health and safety audit is to identify strengths and weaknesses in the organization's/company's health and safety program. The audit is designed to ensure that there are appropriate mechanisms in place for carrying out all aspects of the health and safety program. An audit is not a test to be either passed or failed. It is a good way to find and correct problems before they become serious.

A certified auditor may conduct a health and safety audit. In many cases, an audit team, including members of the company, carries out the audit. However, audits do not have to be large, time consuming operations. An effective audit can be properly conducted by one auditor in one-day on most sites. Generally, the ACSA audit document (based on commonly accepted industry standards) analysis's documentation, records observations, and interviews employees to gather information.

Health and safety audits should be scheduled regularly (annually). Certain aspects of the health and safety program may need to be reviewed more often.
