Overview
This course is a combination of the requirements of WHMIS and follows the elements of the Federal Controlled Product Regulation as well as additional material to cover the Provincial OH&S Legislation Chemical Biological and Harmful Substances.

Many of you would have been taught WHMIS hopefully at one time or another, but many companies miss the fact that there is legislation that dictates that not all products we come in cotact with are a controlled substance, for example many everyday products sold commercial at Home Depot or even your local supermarket are hazardous, so therefore its just not Controlled Products its any chemical.

And don't think for one minute that because you work in an office that there aren't hazards lurking around. Be diligent as to whats in your work place, and for that matter at home too.

Part 4 Chemical Hazards, Biological Hazards and Harmful Substances
  1. Potential worker exposure

21(1) If a worker may be exposed to a harmful substance at a work site, an employer must identify the health hazards associated with the exposure and assess the worker's exposure.

21(2) The employer must ensure that a worker who may be exposed to a harmful substance at a work site (a) is informed of the health hazards associated with exposure to that substance, (b) is informed of measurements made of airborne concentrations of harmful substances at the work site, and (c) is trained in procedures developed by the employer to minimize the worker's exposure to harmful substances, and understands the procedures.

21(3) A worker who is provided with training under subsection (2) must use the procedures appropriately and apply the training.
It's True! It's True! Without the Shedding of Blood

"Without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sins. You cannot correct a great wrong until somebody is killed; you might talk about the dangers, but they will not listen. Not until the tragedy of death shocks us will we pay attention."

    W.J.Bryan, Titanic Memorial Service April 21, 1912
