Worker Education
To Ensure that the WHMIS program stays functional, there are specific responsibilities that must be adhered to.
Suppliers' Responsibilities
  1. Provide labels and hazardous information on the MSDS's on their hazardous products.
Employer's Requirements
  1. Employers are required to provide workers with training on key things:

    1. How to use WHMIS labels and read MSDS's
    2. Procedures for safe use, storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials site;
    3. Procedures to follow in case of an emergency involving the hazardous materials and
    4. Special colour, number or letter codes used to identify pumps and pipes, and vessels carrying hazardous materials on site.
    5. Ensure labels and information is available
    6. Train workers
Worker Responsibility While each worker has the right to know, each worker also has the responsibility to:
    1. Learn how to use WHMIS
    2. Accept and review information on hazardous materials at the site
    3. Follow recommended procedures to protect oneself and others
    4. Inform the employer of hazards and damaged or missing labels and MSDS's
