Corsafety.ca is committed to protecting the health & safety of individuals and communities affected by our activities. The inappropriate use of alcohol and drugs puts individuals and communities at risk and is not acceptable on our worksites.

Through our comprehensive Alcohol & Drug policy and practices, Corsafety.ca is committed to preserving a high-performance work environment that is safe for our employees, contractors and the public.

Our Alcohol and Drug Policy and Practices are founded on the principals of prevention and providing a safe work environment.

Key to our policy and practices are the following elements:

  • Use, possession, distribution and offering for sale of alcohol, drugs and drug paraphernalia in the workplace are strictly prohibited.
  • Use of alcohol during work hours by individuals in safety-sensitive positions is strictly prohibited.
  • Testing for alcohol and drugs can be conducted as part of post-incident investigations, or where there are reasonable grounds to believe alcohol and drugs are in use or are otherwise impacting the workplace.
  • Pre-assignment testing for drugs can be used as part of the assessment of individuals under consideration for safety-sensitive positions.
  • All testing will be conducted according to U.S Department of Health and Services standards, which are also accepted in Canada.
  • Violations will not be tolerated.
Prevention
  1. Corsafety.ca will ensure their staff report and remain fit for work while on Corsafety.ca business or premises. Fit for work means being able to safely and acceptably perform duties and responsibilities without limitations due to consumption of alcohol or use of drugs.

If an individual is asked to perform services or return to duty while under the influence of alcohol and drugs (including medication that could impact safe operations) it is the responsibility of that individual to inform the company that they cannot accept the assignment.

In addition, Corsafety.ca will prevent inappropriate use of alcohol and drugs as follows:

    • use, posses, distribute or sell beverage alcohol at Corsafety.ca worksites, without company authorization.
    • report for work with a blood-alcohol level content greater than 0.04 percent.
    • use any product containing alcohol during work hours, meals or breaks.
    • use or possess any drugs or drug paraphernalia that is illegal to use or posses
    • possess prescribed medications without a legally obtained prescription
    • use prescribed or over the counter medications in an irresponsible manner
    • intentionally misuse medications that inhibit or may inhibit their ability to perform a job safely and productively (e.g. taking more than the prescribed dosage of a medication, taking someone else's prescription medication, combining medications and alcohol)
Corsafety.ca's staff are expected to investigate through a doctor or pharmacist, whether a medication may interfere with their ability to work safely (e.g. cause drowsiness). They are also expected to take appropriate steps to minimize associated risks, including immediately notifying a Corsafety.ca representative of any need for modified work.
  1. If you have a medical condition that you feel Corsafety.ca needs to be notified about, please see your supervisor and inform Corsafety.ca as to your condition. All medical information is kept strictly confidential.
