Even though you have a responsibility for the health and safety as a supervisor, you cannot do the job by yourself. Everyone in the company holds a part of the overall responsibility for a good health and safety record.
Management is responsible for policies and purchases that promote health and safety. For example, there must be decisions to buy equipment and protective gear that suites the job to be done, where it is needed. There must be authorization for regular maintenance and repairs to keep equipment in good running order. There must be a priority on safety, which sometimes means a job is planned to take a little longer. There must be a willingness to take the time necessary for proper hazard assessments, inspections, investigations, and safety audits.
